Overview

Staged on Holy Island in the United Kingdom, the Pilgrims Ultra 50 km sent runners from Lindisfarne along the coast past Bamburgh Castle. The route stacked 1700 metres of elevation gain onto the 50-kilometre trail—averaging 34 metres of climb per kilometre—which left runners little flat ground to recover between coastal ascents.

An 8-hour time limit demanded a minimum pace of 9.6 minutes per kilometre. That cut-off was tighter than 84% of 50k races and more generous than only 16%, enforcing an aggressive tempo over significant climbing. The field was bigger than 82% of 50k events and smaller than 18%, drawing 118 finishers in 2025 across an event history that began in 2021. Cold Brew Events set the entry fee at £70-72 across its 4 editions.
